Keys Travelers

The Food Stop Before the Florida Keys

Past Florida City, the choices thin out fast: the 18-Mile Stretch has no restaurants, and once you hit Key Largo you’re shopping hungry in vacation traffic. We’re the last fresh, made-to-order meal before the Overseas Highway — just off US-1, behind the Denny’s between the Quality Inn and the Travelodge.

Here’s the trick our regulars use: order about 25 minutes before you pass Florida City — call, text, or order online — and your food is hot and packed as you pull in. Twenty minutes later you’re crossing Jewfish Creek with the car smelling like a proper kitchen instead of a drive-through.

Everything is cooked when you order it (that’s the 20–30 minutes), the curry bases and spice blends are made in-house, and it’s all packed to ride shotgun for an hour without going sad. Key Largo is about half an hour from our door.

What to order

  • Combo Pack — an entrée, jeera rice, and two samosas in one tidy $26 package — the ideal one-person road meal.
  • Samosas (pack of 2 or 6) — the definitive car snack: chicken, lamb, or veggie, and they hold their crunch.
  • Tandoori Chicken — tandoor-roasted with vegetables — travels beautifully and eats clean at a picnic table.

The essentials

  • Where: 333 SE 1st Ave, Florida City, FL 33034 — behind the Denny's, just off US-1.
  • When: Monday & Wednesday–Sunday, 4:00–9:00 PM. Closed Tuesdays.
  • Order ahead: call/text 786.505.4210 or order online — every order is cooked fresh (20–30 minutes).
  • Good to know: halal chicken & lamb · vegan Chana Masala · gluten-free options · every entrée mild, medium, or spicy.

How far is Masala Mandala from Key Largo?

About half an hour. We’re in Florida City at 333 SE 1st Ave, right before US-1 becomes the 18-Mile Stretch — the last made-to-order kitchen before the Keys.

When should I place my order if I’m driving down?

About 25 minutes before you reach Florida City. Every order is cooked fresh (20–30 minutes), so timed right, it’s ready the moment you arrive.

Does the food travel well in the car?

Yes — it’s packed for exactly that. Entrées ride in sealed containers with the rice, and samosas stay crisp. An hour in the car is no problem.
